My Story
I have always loved food but with this came struggles with weight. When I graduated from college almost 50 pounds overweight, I had to make some drastic adjustments. I tried many diets and diet foods but what finally worked permanently was adding whole, unprocessed foods into my daily diet, moving my body more and not worrying about everything I put into my mouth. Now that I am older, it is not so easy to get weight off and keep it off but I have found strategies and habits that work for me and for my clients.
I had discovered the fundamental connection between nutrition and overall health. Food has the power not only to change the way we look, feel, and relate to the world, but it also has the power to prevent disease and chronic health issues that arise as we get older. Food and lifestyle truly are our best anti-aging tools. I have become passionate about the message of food as medicine and I know that if more people understood it, making lifestyle changes would be easier. I am a lifelong athlete who wants to stay vital and I want to teach others that it is possible for all even if you have never liked exercise or been a good eater.
My Practice
After having a health coaching business for 6 years, I am now adding a functional nutrition component to my practice.
Health coaching is primarily about losing weight and feeling your best. The functional nutrition piece enables me to look deeper at why the weight isn’t, budging as well as what else is going on in your body that will help explain some of your other symptoms. It is truly all related. If the body is not functioning properly, no amount of dieting will move the needle on the scale and worse could make you sicker.
I received my training from The Wellness Forum in Ohio and the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, where I was trained in more than one hundred dietary theories and studied a variety of practical lifestyle coaching methods. In addition, I have a certification from the Functional Nutrition Lab where we look at the whole person and the root causes of the issues. Drawing on this knowledge, I will help you create a completely personalized “roadmap to health” that suits your unique body, lifestyle, preferences, and goals.
My Training
I received my training as a Functional nutritionist from the Functional Nutrition Lab in Portland Oregon, and my health coaching certifications from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition’s Health Coach Training Program and Level one health coaching certificate from the Wellness Forum in Ohio.
During my training, I studied many dietary theories, practical lifestyle management techniques, and innovative coaching methods. My education has equipped me with extensive knowledge in holistic nutrition, health coaching, and preventive health. Drawing on these skills and my knowledge of different dietary theories, I work with clients to help them make lifestyle changes that produce real and lasting results.
In addition, I am board certified by the American Association of Drugless Practitioners. I am also trained in Level one Reiki. I have spent the past 12 years working in the health industry as a representative for a whole food supplement and have worked my entire life at successfully managing my own weight issues. As a life long athlete, I am committed to finding the best secrets for staying young and healthy.
